Board - Administration


Eric began his service as Corp Director during the 2009 season.  Between 2007 and 2009 he served as Chair of the Board of Directors. Prior to becoming chair, he was a member of the board during the 2005 and 2006 seasons and marched in the baritone line in 2003 and 2004. He wasn't an especially strong player, but he sure did enjoy being on the field. He has been a drum corps fan since 1986 when he attended his first DCI World Championships in lovely Madison, Wisconsin. Eric is a graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield and earned an MBA from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. When not doing drum corps, Eric serves as Director of School Planning for the Minneapolis Public Schools. Gavin has been involved with Minnesota Brass Inc. since 1985, as a marching member from 1985 to 1989; Financial Officer and Assistant Corps Director from 1988 to 1994; Corps Director from 1995 to 2001; and Executive Director and President from 2003 to current (2009). Gavin received the Brassy award in 1989. He is a Principal and Certified Public Accountant at Olsen Thielen "&" Co., a public accounting firm in St. Paul. He earned a B.S. in Accounting from UW-River Falls. Gavin has been involved in many other area musical organizations as a financial and management advisor. He met his wife, Kathy, in MBI.


Dave has been a member of MBI since 1990, marching 6 years total, and serving as a visual tech or administrator in the years he didn't march. He joined the Board of Directors in 1992 and served until 2001 when he was elected Board Chair, a position he held until 2007. He received the Brassy Award in 2003. Dave was a trombone player with the University of Minnesota marching Band from 1987 through 1990, and also in 1998. In real life, Dave works as an Air Traffic Controller at the Minneapolis ARTCC, and is also a professional photographer, specializing in weddings, events and portraits. He is married to MBI keyboard, mellophone alumna, and current souvenir coordinator Becki Whitaker, and they have 2 sons: Aidan (4) and Tristan (2).


Gwynne has held the role of Secretary for Minnesota Brass, Inc. since 1990. In this role, she provides administrative support to the organization and takes minutes at Board meetings. Gwynne joined the organization in 1974 as a marching member in the color guard. In the past, she has worked at the Corps bingo operation and served as gambling manager. She currently works for the organization as a member of the support staff (which includes constructing and maintaining uniforms, flags, and other activities in support of the marching members and staff) and coordinates events/staffing with the Xcel Energy Center (which raises funds for the organization).   During the day, Gwynne is a Sourcing Specialist at General Mills, Inc.(beginning work as part of The Pillsbury Company). She is power user of the company's procurement system where she works with purchasing hardware, software, paying invoices and providing support to other procurers.

Kurt first joined MBI in 1978, and 2011 will be his 20th season on the field as a performer, including 1980 Blue Stars and 2005 Govenaires.  He returns to his role as Board Chair having served in this capacity in the 1990's. During that time he also served as Assistant Corps Director and Business Manager. Currently, Kurt assists in performance bookings, copyright compliance, along with his duties as Board Chair.

 

Kurt has been with St. Paul Public Schools for over 20 years, and is currently a part of the IT team at Washington Technology Secondary Magnet. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from St. Cloud State University. He is married to his amazing wife Andrea, and has 4 children, Sgt. Tom, USMC (ret); Josh,; AIC Nick, USAF, and Bob.

Bob returns to an active leadership role with the corps after several years as a casual fan. Bob served as percussion instructor and arranger for a number of years, and also served as a percussion judge with DCM and DCI. The Bach family have been supporters, performers, and leaders with Minnesota Brass for many years. Bob brings a wealth of drum corps knowledge and management experience to the Board. Bob is a manager at Boston Scientific Corporation.


Mike has been a member of MBI since 2003 marching with the Drumline on the cymbal line from 2003 to 2005. After three great years of marching, Mike turned to instructing for the next two years and became one of the Colorguard techs in 2006 and the cymbal line instructor in 2007. In 2008 Mike was elected to the board of directors and is currently still serving as a board member. When not with Minnesota Brass, Mike is a Sales Engineer for Automated Extrusion, a plastic extrusion tooling company.  He also loves hunting, being in the outdoors and watching drum corps with is 2 year old son Anders. 


Susan has been a member of the Board for the past 12 years and serves as the chair of the Gifts and Grants Committee. She first joined the Brass support staff as a member of the sewing crew when her son, Aaron, joined the corps in 1990. Since that time, she has worked on the support staff every year during his time in the soprano section and later as the drum major, as well as the years when he has not been a marching member. In addition to sewing and serving on the board, Susan sells souvenirs and participates in almost every fundraiser the corps has done over the years. Not only is she active with Brass, she is also an active supporter of marching members and the Booster Club for Phantom Regiment and has occasionally sewn for the corps since Aaron marched with them in the early 90's. Susan is a retiree from General Mills, where she held various management positions in the Marketing Research group.


Scott marched with Minnesota Brass and the Madison Scouts.  He is currently the marching band director at Eden Prairie High School in Eden Prairie, MN.

Todd is an alum of Minnesota Brass having marched with the corps in the 1980's.  He went on to march with the Blue Devils and became an active volunteer and leader with their organization.  Todd is a former President of the Blue Devils Board of Directors.  Todd is also a leader of Minne-Brass.

Scotty Joined MBI as a Marching and visual instructor in 1987, served as it's Show coordinator and then Corps Director from 1991 through 1993 when he stepped into the singular role as coordinator of Drum Beauty , MBI's DCI show in Stillwater. His career in Drum Corps started with the Cavaliers in 1954 ( Color Guard) and taught them as a visual instructor on 3 different occasions. His additional consultation and visual design/technical assignments include Blue Rock , Skyryders , Schaumberg Guardsmen, Skokie Vanguard , Garfield Cadets and many others. With The Central States Judges Assn( since 1964) , he served as it's visual coordinator and Executive Director. With DCI , he served as it's Visual caption coordinator and judged the first DCI (Finals) Championship in WhiteWater , WI- Aug, 1972. Scotty retired from Wells Fargo as a financial consultant and is married to Beth ( Marched in the Rivermen ) and has many children and grandchildren ( 4 of which are still at home ).
